This conference will help church leaders in parishes and mission communities understand this shift and engage it honestly, so that mission becomes hospitable, communities become meaningful, and churches rediscover how to be open, authentic, and spiritually compelling in the 21st century.

The conference includes facilitated group conversations that encourage deeper interaction and participation, and brief times of prayer and reflection.

  5.   CANTERBURY COLLEGE LECTURE SERIES - Deconstructing the Doctrine of Discovery 3

This is a free event for everyone being offered on March 5 at 7 pm EST.

Afro-Indigenous Resistance in the Global South: Ancestral Territories and Colonial Legacies

This session aims to contribute to the debate on deconstructing the Doctrine of Discovery from the perspective of Latin America’s historical and contemporary experience. The session will introduce the foundations of Latin American decolonial thought and some of its key theoretical categories, such as colonialism and coloniality. From this perspective, the context of Ecuador will be considered, as a current legal struggle of aligned Afro-Ecuadorian and Indigenous communities will be presented. These communities continue to confront the colonial legacy that threatens their ancestral ways of life and territories.  POSTER

CANTERBURY COLLEGE WORKSHOPS: Faith Without Favouritism and Allyship
    February and March

One of the things that marginalized groups often say is that while they appreciate efforts folks make to lift up and recognize the contributions marginalized groups make to our lives, doing some education around the roots of the marginalization/oppression is still necessary.  We are responsible for educating ourselves in these issues and taking steps to change old habits,  microaggressions, and unintentional ways we continue to perpetuate racist and oppressive systems.  The Faith Without Favouritism course happening in February (Black History Month) is a solid way folks can move beyond words and take real action to show their commitment to dismantling systems of oppression. If the Feb course isn't a possibility, then the Allyship likewise is a great way to put "boots on the ground" re doing the work of anti-oppression rather than just talking about it.

  6. The Essex Deanery Lay Leadership Training Classes: Lay leadership courses for 2025 and early 2026.
These classes will be held in person at Canterbury College. Classes are from 10:00 am - 2:30 pm with 30 minutes for lunch.

We have partnered with Canterbury College for the courses and they are providing us with the technology support to also bring the classes by zoom. Please join us for one or for all of the classes.

This year we have decided to focus on the core subjects.

    Mar 21, 2026 - Preaching

Please contact Rev. Elise Chambers if you would like to attend: elisechambers@diohuron.org. If you have a class you would like offered that would be beneficial for the laity or one you would like to facilitate please contact Rev. Kimberly Myer - kimmyer@diohuron.org. Or Rev.
