Huron Farmworkers Ministry…. Making the Invisible, Visible.

Among us here in the Diocese of Huron are tens of thousands of temporary migrant farm workers who work our fields to provide the food we eat here, in the Diocese of Huron and across Canada.  We can only begin to understand the challenges faced by migrant farmworkers, including language barriers, cultural differences, discrimination, and limited knowledge and/or access to resources.

Our ministry aims to address these challenges and create a welcoming and inclusive environment for the workers. We provide information regarding their Canadian rights and obligations, workshops, assist with health care by providing transportation, translation services etc.  We also host weekly meals in Simcoe, Tillsonburg, and Leamington, and celebrations of faith to provide spiritual, moral support and fellowship.

In addition, we provide information regarding emergency housing, donated clothing, food, bicycles, toiletries (shaving cream, razors, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.), towels, blankets, safety glasses, gloves, knee pads, suitcases, safety shoes, boots (both safety and winter) and non-perishable food items. We continually welcome new friends each week as word spreads throughout the farms.
