2025 EVENTS

1. DEADLINES:

2.   PRE-SYNOD ARCHIVES WORKSHOP

   Diocesan Archivist Dez Nacario will be hosting a workshop on Archives and Record Keeping at Parishes on Friday, October 24 from 3:00pm-5:00pm at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

   Topics will include the newly developed retention guidelines, recommendations for storage and filing, electronic file management, how to deposit records in the archives, and more! 3.   PROUD ANGLICANS is currently seeking new clergy and lay members of the LGBTQ2SIA+ community within the Diocese to serve in the roles of: 

   •    Deanery representatives - one from each of the 11 deaneries in the Diocese of Huron.

   •    Volunteers from each deanery to help with local functions and events. 

   •    Volunteers from London and beyond to assist with our participation in the London Pride Parade.

4.   The Diocese of Huron now has a subscription service for the Licentiate in Theology Program. This means tuition for any student in our Diocese is free of charge. 

   This includes the three upcoming courses:

   1) Strong Roots: Contemplative Prayer and Practice with Dr. Jennifer Boyes-Garbin, starting on November 1st.  POSTER

   2) The Heart of a Deacon: The Vocation of Diaconal Ministry with Dr. Grayhame Bowcott, starting on November 4th.  POSTER

   Also, St. George's, The Blue Mountains, is in the process of applying for a $30,000 Commonwell L.E.A.F Grant. This process hosts Ontario applications through an online voting process. Applications with the most public support are moved to the top of the list for consideration.

   It is called the MAKER SPACE Project and seeks to transform our 1870s Carriage House into a multi-use community space.

5. ONLINE CHILD SAFETY

   Welcome to all leaders and families interested in attending.  With AI, chatbots, social media, etc. changing daily, it is important for all adults with children in their care to attend.  More is happening online than people realize.

   Detective Sergeant Jeremy Spence and NGO Ambassador Dr. Charlene Doak-Gebauer, both global speakers, will make this presentation on November 6 from 1:30 - 6:30 pm at the Civic Garden Complex in London (625 Springbank Drive, London, ON).  There is no cost but voluntary donations are accepted online at www.internetsensefirst.com. Funds support child victims of Internet exploitation.

6. Education for Ministry - A Book Swap & An Invitation to Booklovers

   While Synod 2025 is still some weeks away, our hope when we gather, as in previous years, is to offer a book swap at our October Synod gathering. Are you looking to liberate some of the books in your library??

   Are you looking to find something new to read and/or fresh inspiration? 

   Feel free to either bring your books along to Synod and visit the Education for MInistry table to drop off your books and take home some new ones...

    OR

   Arrange to drop your books with us in advance by reaching out to libicliff@gmail.com and visiting the table at Synod for some new treasures.

   PLEASE DO NOT DROP THEM OFF AT THE TEMPORARY CHURCH HOUSE OFFICE AS SPACE IS LIMITED.

   While books of all eras have much to teach us, for the purpose of this EFM Book Swap we would appreciate receiving texts which consider matters of a religious, spiritual, theological nature written in the last 15 years.

Cursillo Weekend - Nov. 21-23, 2025 sponsored by Niagara Huron Anglican Cursillo will be held at Mount Mary Retreat Centre, Ancaster.  You may know someone who would benefit from a short course in Christianity. 2025 - 2026 EVENTS

1. The Essex Deanery Lay Leadership Training Classes: Lay leadership courses for 2025 and early 2026.
   These classes will be held in person at Canterbury College. Classes are from 10:00 am - 2:30 pm with 30 minutes for lunch.

   We have partnered with Canterbury College for the courses and they are providing us with the technology support to also bring the classes by zoom. Please join us for one or for all of the classes.

   This year we have decided to focus on the core subjects.

2. Baptismal Living: A Series of Five Online Workshops
   Saturdays from Oct 2025 to March 2026
   10am to 11:30am, Online 

   •   Do you remember the promises made at your baptism?  Do you ever think about those promises, and what you are doing to keep them?

   •   Did you know that, every year, Christians all around the world take time to reflect on their baptismal vows, to consider how they will live them intentionally and, at Easter, to renew their commitment to those promises?

12.   FUNDRAISING CONCERT AT ASCENSION LONDON on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.

    Alex Baerg, music director at Church of the Ascension in London, will share his career in songs and stories in the concert This Old Guitar. From folk and Broadway to country and rock and roll, Alex and his acoustic guitar will bring the audience familiar tunes, personal moments, and special guests.

16. ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST with ST. JUDE, LONDON
    5K Run - Walk  -  Sunday, October 19 Check in at 1:30 pm, Race starts at 2:30 pm

    18th annual 5K Run – Walk to support St. John’s Outreach including our Saturday Evening Meal program, the Tuesday Lunch and other activities. Joined this year by St. Jude’s in support of their Saturday Breakfast Program. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome – individuals and teams.

    Beverley Maranger, vocals and Tim Elliott, piano, with musical friends will present a concert of jazz and classics on Friday October 24 at 7p.m. in the magnificent acoustics of St. James Stratford' Upper Parish Hall. 5. CHRIST CHURCH, CHATHAM is hosting their annual Mexican Posada on Friday December 12th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  This tradition commemorates the Holy Family’s journey to Bethlehem.  There will be music, singing, food and the breaking of a pinata.  There will be a potluck dinner which will feature the spicy culinary talents of Padre Juan.  All are welcome to attend.  Christ Church is located at 80 Wellington Street West.

6. ST. JAMES, FAIRMOUNT has been at the corner of Grey Rds 7 and 40, between Meaford and Kimberley in Grey Highlands, since 1867.

   St. James’ uses the Book of Common Prayer and we sing all our services, normally at 9 a.m. on Sundays.
