General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada elected the Right Reverend Shane Parker, Bishop of Ottawa, as its new Primate on June 26, 2025 at the 44th session of Synod hosted by the Diocese of Huron in London, Ontario.

Parker was elected after a very tense process, winning a majority of both lay and clergy votes on the fifth ballot. He will be installed as the 15th Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada at the Closing Worship of Synod at St. Paul's Cathedral Church in London, Ontario on Sunday, June 29. 

The Right Reverend Dr. Shane Parker, assumed office at the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, in March 2020, after serving as the Dean of Christ Church Cathedral for two decades.

He was born to Irish parents in Edmonton, Alberta, and lived in western Canada during his childhood. He worked as a labourer for several years before undergraduate and graduate studies in sociology at Carleton University, and was a professional sociologist prior to studies in theology at Saint Paul University.

Parker was ordained priest in the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa in 1987 and was appointed Dean of Ottawa and Rector of Christ Church Cathedral in 1999. Prior to his appointment as dean, he served as a parish priest and as the diocesan archdeacon.

On March 14, 2020, he was elected to be the 10th Bishop of the Diocese of Ottawa, and was consecrated and seated on Pentecost Sunday, May 31, 2020.

He has served as a part-time professor of pastoral ministry and sociology at Saint Paul University.
