NEW CANON

Bishop Townshend names the Reverend Dr Greg Jenkins a Canon of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, with immediate effect.

Canon Greg served as the Archdeacon of Waterloo from August 2016 through September 2018 before taking a position in the Diocese of New Westminster. He returned to Huron last month as Rector of the Church of the Holy Saviour, Waterloo.

RESIGNATION

Bishop Townshend has accepted the resignation of the Reverend Andreas Thiel as Rector of St. Matthew’s, Windsor, effective 30 November 2023. His last day in the parish will be 16 November.

Andreas has accepted an appointment as Rector of the Parish of Salvage in the Central Diocese of Newfoundland, effective 1 December.

SABBATICAL LEAVE

Bishop Townshend has informed the Diocesan Council that he will be on a period of sabbatical leave from 1 January through 10 March 2024. While a portion of the leave will be for respite and rejuvenation, the remainder will afford a concentrated period of time to finalise and write the statement of strategic direction for the Diocese that has been gestating for the past several years. In the words of the Charge to Synod 2023, it will be a time of both tending and tilling as we work together to discern God’s mission and plan for Huron so that we can participate more fully in it.

APPOINTMENTS

Bishop Townshend appoints the Reverend Sarah Armstrong as Rector of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London, effective 1 November 2023, and Associate Priest at St. Michael and All Angels, London, effective 1 December 2023.

Bishop Townshend is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Rick McCarty as the Property Management Officer for the Diocese, effective 5 September 2023. In that role, he will report to the Archdeacon, Episcopal Office and work closely with Church House staff and volunteers on matters relating to our buildings and other properties.

Rick brings extensive experience from both the public and private sectors in a wide variety of areas, including administration, financial management, and building/facility management. He is an active member of the Anglican Church and currently serves as Rector’s Warden at Trivitt Memorial Church, Exeter.

RESIGNATION

Bishop Townshend has accepted the resignation of Mr Kyle Gascho as Technology and Research Assistant at Huron Church House as of August 31st. Although he will continue to assist the Diocese on a casual and part-time basis, Kyle is returning to university in pursuit of a Bachelor of Education degree. We wish him well in his studies!

INDUCTIONS

On behalf of Bishop Townshend, the Venerable Megan Collings-Moore will induct the Reverend Dr Justin Comber as the Rector of St. George’s, Goderich, and Christ Church, Port Albert on Sunday October 1st at St. George’s, Goderich, at 4 p.m.

The preacher will be the Reverend Allie McDougall. Clergy are invited to vest, the colour being green.

On behalf of Bishop Townshend, the Venerable Jane Humphreys will induct the Reverend Ryan Boivin as the Rector of St. Mark’s-by-the-Lake, Tecumseh on Sunday, September 24th at 3:00 p.m.

The preacher will be the Reverend Robert Clifford. Clergy are invited to vest, the colour being green.

DECONSECRATION

Bishop Townshend will preside at an outdoor service of Deconsecration for St. Ann’s, 2276 Egremont Drive, Adelaide (Strathroy) ON at 3:30 pm on Sunday, September 17, 2023.  

All are welcome to come to support the congregation – please bring your own lawn chair. Clergy are invited to vest, the colour being green.
