The Anglican Diocese of Huron will start off its 178th synod on Sunday, May 26 by planting a tree on the lawn of St. Paul’s Cathedral, London and calling on the Provincial Government to rethink the cancellation of the tree planting program in Ontario.
“I was discouraged to hear of the cancellation of the tree planting program in Ontario. I call on the Provincial Government to rethink this cancellation”, states the Rt. Rev. Linda Nicholls, Bishop of Huron, in her letter sent to the Anglican congregations across the Diocese of Huron on May 21. In the letter Bishop Nicholls encourages the members of her congregations to be proactive in recognizing the call “to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth.”
Bishop Nicholls and her guest at this year’s synod, the Bishop of Amazonia Rt. Rev. Marinez Bassotto will plant a tree in front of Cronyn Hall at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Sunday at 6:15 pm.
Around 450 delegates representing more than 160 local churches will attend the 178th Huron synod from May 26 to May 28.
