Why engage in catechumenal ministries?
The ancient church understood that people need to learn how to live a Christian life; it doesn’t just “happen” because we’ve been baptized. That’s why they invested a lot of time and effort into this process of learning. Through various means, they made sure that the catechumens would be well-integrated into the life of the worshipping communi-ty, because we can’t learn to be Christians in isolation. We all need one another. We need the support of a faith community.
When we model our lifelong Christian learning on a process like this, amazing things can happen. See our webpage “Who does Catechumenal Ministries” to read the stories of real people in this diocese who organized or participated in a catechumenal ministry.
