Huron Synod opens at St. Paul’s Cathedral

The 177th Synod of the Diocese of Huron convened at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, Ontario on Sunday, May 27.

The Rt. Reverend Linda Nicholls, Bishop of Huron, called the 177th Synod of the Diocese of Huron to order at 5 pm.

Synod service started at 7 pm. Celebrant was The Most Reverend Fred Hiltz, Primate of All Canada.

Bishop Linda Nicholls appointed and installed Rev. Rob Lemon and Rev. Bill Ward to the Cathedral Chapter of Canons and also Rev. Dr. Lizette Larson-Miller as Canon Precentor. She also appointed diocesan regional deans: Rev. Paul Sherwood (Brant/Norfolk), Rev. Canon Nick Wells (Delaware), Rev. Canon Rob Lemon (Essex), Rev. Matt Martin (Huron/Perth), Rev. John Maroney (Kent), Rev. Kristen Aikman (Lambton), Rev. Canon Bill Ward (London), Rev. Meghan Nicholls (Oxford), Rev. Carrie Irwin (Saugeens), and Rev. Canon Linda Nixon (Waterloo).

Appointment of Canons to the Cathedral Chapter of Canons

At the service 22 new diocesan servers were commissioned: Nancy Barwick, Brendon Bedford, Nigel Challen, Kalvin Clark, Sophia Dencev, Isabella DiNino, Amanda DiNino, Deirdre DiNino, Richard Falshaw, Sharon Frank, Kyle Gascho, Donna Gingras, Donald Hastie, Christopher Hughesman, Carolyn Mastellotto, Lisa Mendler, Bill McKinstry, Stefan Nichol, Reagan Roberts, Karen Sunabacka, Michelle Viglianti and Don Walters.

Some 400 registered participant will continue their work on Monday and Tuesday at the London Convention Centre. The theme of this year’s Huron Synod is “Being Disciples: Abiding in God’s Word”.
