Bishop Saulo awarded Doctor of Divinity degree by Huron College

The Right Reverend Saulo Mauricio de Barros, the first Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Amazon, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by Huron College at the convocation on May 11.

The Right Reverend Linda Nicholls, the Bishop of Huron, conferred the degree of Doctor of Divinity upon Bishop Saulo for his significant contribution to the development of online theological education in Brazil. Bishop Saulo is president of the Brazilian National Council of Theological Education and the coordinator of the 3rd Provincial Area for Anglican Studies. He is also a member of the International Consultative Committee for the United Society – Partners in the Gospel representing the Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil.

In his convocation address at Huron College on Thursday Bishop Saulo presented a passionate and well-founded case for the study of theology in the face of ever growing challenges and deep ethical crisis of today’s world.

Rt. Rev. Saulo de Barros was elected as the first Bishop of the Amazon in 2006. The Diocese of Amazonia and the Diocese of Huron entered a five-year covenant in 2014.

At the theological section of the 309th convocation of Western University on May 11 nine students of Huron College were also awarded their master level degrees.
