Sometimes our lives are captured by the vision of an adventure that demands a response. I want to tell you about such an adventure being taken by Bishop Rob Hardwick from the Diocese of Qu-Appelle (Southern Saskatchewan).
Several years ago Bishop Rob observed that several clergy in the diocese had suffered serious heart events and he, himself, needed to pay attention to health and well-being. In order to promote healthy lifestyles among the clergy he took on that challenge first. Bishop Rob took up cycling! Over the next years the House of Bishops noticed that Rob had lost considerable weight and was very fit and trim.
In the summer vacations Rob used his new found love of cycling to cycle across his diocese – stopping at parishes for a meal or a time of prayer to pray for the people and places he was visiting. In 2018 his dream is much bigger. Bishop Rob will be cycling across Canada!!
+Rob will cycle coast to coast over 77 days – touching over 30 dioceses along his route. He will be joined in Saskatchewan by his son and his wife will be part of the support team. At each stop in a parish or diocese Bishop Rob invites parishioners and friends to join him for prayer – for our beloved Anglican Church of Canada; for one another; and for the ongoing work of healing and reconciliation with indigenous peoples.
Bishop Rob is raising funds through the adventure for the Healing fund of the Anglican Church of Canada and for Indigenous ministry in our Church.
He will be touching the Diocese of Huron with a ride from Tobermory – down the Bruce Penninsula through Wiarton on June 28, 2018 beginning in Tobermory about 8:30 a.m.
Companions are always welcome to join him on his cycle….. or to join us in Wiarton for lunch and prayer on June 28th or in Owen Sound for afternoon tea about 3:15 p.m. Details of meeting locations for lunch and tea will be sent in Diocesan announcements in coming weeks.
Please pray for Bishop Rob – Watch his progress on his blog at: https://quappelle.anglican.ca/ministry/p/bishops-ride or follow him on Facebook at LIVING THE MISSION.
It is my hope and prayer that individuals and parishes might join in both prayer and financial support for this vision of an adventure that lives out the Gospel proclamation to love your neighbour as yourself and seek justice and peace.
