“Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep.
For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near.
Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armour of light; let us live honourably as in the day,
not in revelling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarrelling and jealousy.
Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.”
The first Sunday of Advent sets us up for a season of preparation in anticipation for that moment when we will be transformed. Through the letter to the Romans, we are called to live differently beginning today. We are called to ‘put on the Lord Jesus Christ’ being intentional about the choices we make and the ways we live throughout this season and beyond.
As we continue to seek to ‘get behind’ the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in our belief that the world can be a better place, this year we offer an Advent Calendar that follows four of the goals, one each week.
On Sunday, the calendar will identify the goal, Monday through Friday includes actions you can undertake that will contribute to achieving this goal and Saturday ends with a prayer courtesy of the Rev. Laura Marie Piotrowicz, AFP Canada Executive.
May this time be for all of us, an opportunity to seek Emanuel, God with us, as revealed in the ways that God’s people live and love following the example of the One who came that we might have life.
